Fed up conservative views on Saturday, December 15, 2007 1:20:34 PM
As a life long conservative from the old Barry Goldwater days, I have become completely fed up with the religious right and their imperialist views on what we should and should not do.
The separation of church and state our founding fathers stipulated was critical to forming a real democracy yet seems to be ignored by the religious right so they can spread their gospel. My personal religious beliefs should have nothing to do with who I support for president. Our national politics should be above that.
My wife is a liberal from a family of school teacher liberals but when it comes to a women's right, I support her wishes not some politicians view. For the first time in our 28 years neither of us is happy with any of the candidates. We don't see any of them as any more than self serving and saying what they think us ignorant voters want to hear. Pattui!!
We have bigger issues to solve:
- Start to fix the environment by standing up to automotive and petroleum companies and taxing them to finance the solutions for alternative energy solutions;
- Reduce the national debt
- Get a National health plan
- Fix social security
- Start to eliminate government waste with independent oversight not political appointees.
- Getting out of Iraq and stop dictating other countries internal politics;
- Use the funds supporting military in Iraq to solve the real problems here at home;
- Recognizing and do something about our dependence on imported oil: use a lot of CFL (compact fluorescent light bulbs), reduce our driving, use more mass transportation, turn down the thermostat;
- Elect politicians who can manage and compromise, who are not afraid of crossing partisan lines;
